History

In 1960, when Willie Smith purchased the motorcycle shop where he had worked on 17th Street and Greensboro that you know as Smith's Sport Cycles, Inc. He had worked with a previous owner on 9th street since he was a young kid. He moved to a larger location across the street, then relocated to 15th Street and Greensboro. In 1972, Willie built and moved into a new building on McFarland Blvd. East and in 1977 became a Honda dealer. He had become a Suzuki dealer in 1962 and a Yamaha dealer since 1963. He last moved in 1985 to the present location on SKYLAND BLVD. EAST, "Top of the Hill", and became a Kawasaki dealer in 1992.

Willie married in 1956. After his son, Derick(Rick), was born in 1965, his wife, Margie, came to work in the office. Rick grew up working in the store and presently manages the business.

Willie has raced hare scrambles, flat track, hill climbs and in 1963 was Grand Champion in the 24-Hour Marathon in Montgomery, Alabama. Like Willie, Rick has a passion for the industry and grew up competing in motor cross, road racing and drag racing where he set and .8-mile record at Lassiter Mountain Raceway and a quarter mile record at Gulfport International Raceway.

Motorcycles, on and off road, ATVs, Side X Sides, two and four seats, Personal Watercraft, Wave runners, Jet Skis, Portable Generators, Go Karts and Trailers, New and Pre-Owned. Our parts department staff, in addition to manufacturer OEM parts and accessories, have a wide selection of products available from Parts Unlimited, Tucker Rocky, Sullivan's and Western Power Sports among other quality suppliers.

Smith's Sport Cycles, Inc. is family owned and operated. We are serving our fourth (4th) generation of customers and that is why we treat your family like ours.
